    Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

    Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, records in possession of public agencies may be accessed by the public upon written request. A public record is any records, reports, forms, writings regardless of physical form or characteristics, having been prepared, or having been or being used, received, possessed or under the control of any public body.


    Open Meeting Act (OMA).

    The Open Meetings Act is a state law that requires meetings of public bodies be open to the public except in certain specific, limited situations where the law authorizes the public body to close a meeting. OMA also provides that the public must be given advance notice of the time, place and subject matter of the meetings of public bodies.
